As I climbed a Nicaraguan mountain in the crisp and cool air, I came upon a donkey carrying a bundle of branches on its back as it fed from the grass at its feet. Like this donkey, we must shoulder our burdens, surmount our obstacles, and battle our demons to emerge victorious.The Burdens On Our Backs Travel picture taken in South Carolina on the Ocoee River in July of 2010. On our road trip across the Southeast last year, Dan and I left Carlos to his own devices while the two of us would set out to Conquer The River. It wasn't quite as heroic or capital-letter-y as it might seem though! Through the lens of my Nikon camera I saw a boy about 9 years old pushing a rudimentary pushcart that carried the weight of his burden and of his brother, who sat in the cart with a handful of items to sell to strangers.
